Psychedelic Integration

I offer integration sessions for individuals who use psychedelics outside of my psychotherapy practice.

Over 10 million Americans a year report using some psychedelic substance. Whether the intention is recreational, spiritual, or therapeutic, these experiences often have profound and unexpected effects.

Psychedelics bring about non-ordinary states of consciousness that can loosen the ego defenses that have built up over a lifetime, offering different perspectives and sometimes access to dissociated emotions and memories.

This is not unlike the methods already used in psychoanalysis – like dreams and free association – although psychedelics are often more potent. In fact, psychedelics have been used in psychoanalytic practice for over fifty years.

If you’ve had psychedelic experiences, you may benefit from psychotherapy to help make meaning of your experiences and integrate them into your daily life. It is not uncommon to have challenging experiences through psychedelics, such as greater contact with distressing emotions, and need support to meet these emotions in a sustainable way. Likewise, experiences may be visionary and affirming but still benefit from ongoing attention to facilitate life changes.

Contact me if you’d like to set up a consultation for integration support. I work with individuals who have had independent experiences with medicines such as Psilocybin, MDMA, or LSD, and those who have had group experiences but need more individual exploration of what emerged after group ceremonies have closed. I also work closely with providers who can administer Ketamine in New York City if you are curious about psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and don’t know where to begin.

The shared purpose between psychedelics and psychoanalysis is uncovering what has been unconscious, for the repair and flourishing of the individual psyche in relation to all life.

You can learn more about psychedelic psychoanalysis through a podcast I co-host called The Psychonaut Show. Before starting the show, I interviewed my co-host Dr. John Burton about Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy which you can read here.
